Lake J. D. Edward Van Wyk

Lake was a typical young college student full of life, energy and love and compassion for others. Lake had a bright future ahead of him.

He was studying to be an environmental or automotive design engineer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. We did everything together. We loved to fish, ski, snowmobile, hike, road trip, visit relatives and work on our classic cars.

Lake lit up the room when he entered it. I sometimes referred to him as a “Social Tornado” because of his fun nature and his ability to relate to people.

He also had a serious side. Lake loved helping people. Several of his college classmates have told me they were thankful that Lake helped them with issues they were dealing with and that he was a true friend to them in their times of need.

Lake became depressed during the pandemic lock-down. He was prescribed valium for a period of time and then taken off it by a physician. Unfortunately, after that, he purchased black-market valium from a seller on the Internet that was laced with fentanyl, which killed him.

Lake was and still is the love of my life. I will miss him forever! “Love Like Lake”!!!!

Lake’s Dad,

Douglas J. Van Wyk
